Practice Sessions
All players should be prepared with the following:
1. Clothes/shoes for both indoor and outdoor training. The beginning of the season varies dramatically and we literally do not know what the weather holds for us. NO MATTER WHAT, we will be doing something somewhere for the entire scheduled practice time. If the weather is cold and rainy, we will still be outside, so wear the necessary layers. Failure to be prepared with adequate/appropriate clothing which prohibits participation in practice will be taken into consideration when deciding on team involvement. Put simply: no practice because of unpreparedness equals no game participation.
2. Water bottle – you are strongly encouraged to bring your own water bottle to practice. There may or may not be a water cooler available. Having your own water bottle allows you to take quicker and more frequent water breaks. Hydration is strongly encouraged, but taking team water breaks is not necessarily convenient with our time restraints.
3. Ankle, knee, wrist wraps – if you need wrapped up, you need to let someone know. There are athletic trainers available to wrap you up if you need it. If you are consistently going to need wrapped, please purchase your own wrap.
4. Attendance will be taken daily. If you are unable to make practice, you will be required to complete a one-mile run plus 25 body builders for each hour of missed time. For example, if a player misses a complete practice, she will be required to complete a 2.5 mile run plus 50 body builders. An unexcused absence will be reported to Mr. Tonsor and Mr. Gorman. Please remember, THREE unexcused absences may be justification for removal from the team – and may also result in a failing PE credit for the semester.
*There may be scheduled make up days for players who need to fulfill their obligations. Any player who owes miles or body builders and does NOT attend a make up session will receive an additional mile and 25 body builders added to their requirements.
A. An unexcused absence = no direct contact with school attendance secretary [unexcused school absence] or coach before an absence of practice.
B. Excused absence = excused school absence, doctor's appointment for sports related injury, previously arranged or scheduled school activity.
5. Soccer Balls – The girl's team recently purchased 30 soccer balls for practice use. They are all numbered and can be signed out for use during the season.
6. Communication - You are strongly encouraged to follow "Kimblesoccer" on Twitter to receive the most current information updates. In addition, you should be checking this Web site, your school E-mail account, and Edmodo as often as possible. Coaches have to communicate with 30+ players to disseminate information, players communicate with 2 coaches when there are attendance issues. Players must communicate directly with coaches when there are attendance conflicts.
7. Profanity - each incident of profanity during practice will result in the player immediately completing 20 push ups.
8. Professionalism: listening, hustle, sportsmanship
A. listening -- when a coach is talking and/or instructing, each player / group / team must listen attentively in silence. Inattentiveness equals lack of participation.
B. hustle -- practices should be more stringent than games. A player lacking a high level of effort during drills, small-sided games, and / or scrimmage is only hurting the team's game performance. When a player is not practicing at "game speed," she will be removed from the field of play to complete a series of conditioning drills.
C. sportsmanship -- during practices and games, each player should respect the game, all players, all coaches, and all referees. All players should compete at their highest levels while maintaining positive character qualities.
If a coach has to repeat instructions because of interruptions or lack of attentive listening, consistently observes an obvious lack of hustle, or observes unsportsmanlike conduct, then the player / group / team will complete 50 body builders plus 50 plank obliques.
9. Phone / Electronic Devices are prohibited during the allotted practice time. Players who use any personal communication device during practice will be required to run 1 mile immediately after practice. The third offense will result in a two-game suspension.
10. (Other) – I know I am probably forgetting something . . . .
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS FOR GAMES:
1. Game Attendance: when a player misses a game, she will waive the privilege of playing the first half of the following game also. Each player is required to attend the entirety of the junior varsity and varsity games. There are no exceptions.
2. Players are frequently assigned tasks during games. Each player is expected to fulfill her role. Only a coach is allowed to assign or re-assign a task. Failure to complete an assigned role will result in one game suspension.
3. Players are required to have correct uniform for each game. Preparation failure will result in one game suspension.
4. All varsity players will have statistics for her game performance, including playing time, offensive stats, and defensive stats. Hard work on the field will translate to positive stats numbers.
